Session Summary, June 2025

Maximize Business Impact with Agentic AI

The session delved into the evolving capabilities of AI, particularly agentic AI, which extends beyond generating content to collaborating with humans in business contexts.

Key pannellist: Matt Sanchez, Vice President, Product, watsonx Orchestrate, IBM

Matt Sanchez discussed the historical journey of AI, highlighting its progression from generative models to assistant chatbots, and now AI agents capable of executing complex tasks through a think-act-observe loop. These AI agents can plan, take action, observe results, and reflect, which significantly changes the way businesses operate by integrating conversational solutions, intelligent process automation, and AI agents. Sanchez emphasised that this convergence allows organisations to capture real value from their investments and transform workflows by leveraging AI agents for increased productivity and efficiency.

IBM's approach to harnessing this potential involves creating a product portfolio that orchestrates work across agents, data, business processes, and applications within a single platform. Sanchez explained that IBM’s Watson X orchestrate integrates pre-built capabilities with hundreds of business applications and tools, enabling deployment in hybrid environments. He highlighted the transition from pilot phases to the profitable application of AI, supported by a recent IBM Institute of Business Value study showing a shift from project ROI to steady increases in operating profit due to AI. IBM’s platform facilitates the deployment of numerous AI agents, ensuring seamless integration and enhancing existing workflows while maintaining quality, security, privacy, and performance.

The session also included a detailed demonstration of Watson X orchestrate’s capabilities through a customer verification and onboarding process. Sanchez illustrated how agents can streamline tasks that traditionally involve manual processes, reducing time significantly from hours to minutes. Watson X orchestrate simplifies the creation of agents with a no-code environment, integrating tools, knowledge, and governance to control behaviour. The platform supports incremental automation, demonstrating how AI can enhance business processes and provide measurable improvements in efficiency. The session concluded with insights into the future of AI agent deployment, which will require new interaction paradigms, integration patterns, and governance frameworks to fully leverage the technology’s potential.
