Vera Matser
Vera is Head of Skills at the Alan Turing Institute, her team run immersive real-world data science and AI opportunities such as Data Study Groups and a series of placement programmes, as well as provide networking and upskilling opportunities, including the Turing Online Learning Platform. The Turing is one of the delivery partners in the Innovate UK funded BridgeAI Programme, seeking to help businesses in high growth potential sectors to harness the power of AI. The Turing Skills team has been deeply involved in creating the standard for the Alliance for Data Science Professionals, and has led on the creation of the AI Skills for Business framework for the BridgeAI programme (together with UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology).
Previously Vera has worked at EMBL-EBI and the University of Cambridge, where she led a sub-team to provide training and career development opportunities (and sometimes outreach/dissemination) for different scientific communities. She specialised in training needs analysis and creating competency-based training programmes, which led to the development of the EMBL-EBI Competency Hub. She has a PhD in plant developmental genetics and an MBA in management of research infrastructures.
