Andrei Smirnov
Andrei serves as the Head of Data Science at ANNA, where he has been instrumental over the past four years in steering the integration of analytics, machine learning, and AI across the company. His focus areas include enhancing customer support automation, fraud detection, and tax calculations.
Starting his academic career at the Department of Physics at St. Petersburg State University, Andrei specialised in theoretical and mathematical physics. His growing interest in AI during the early 2010s led him to leave his PhD studies in the final year to pursue hands-on experience with this emerging technology.
During his subsequent four years as a research scientist, Andrei concentrated on Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), significantly improving machine learning models for customer support automation. His expertise culminated in his role at ANNA, where he developed the company’s first AI assistant—a tool designed not only to automate routine business tasks but also to genuinely understand and cater to user needs.
Andrei is deeply committed to the ethical aspects of AI, advocating for responsible and ethical AI practices within the industry.
